"That's the spirit!" said Soda, grinning from ear to ear. His enthusiasm was infectious, and Alex found himself a little more excited after all.

As they approached the house, Soda let out a low whistle. "They really went all out. I mean, I didn't think they hadn't, but..."

"Up close, you can see the details," Alex finished for him.

"You get me, bro! Damn, look at that fountain. You think that's dye or what?" Soda approached it, peering at the greenish liquid inside.

Xinyi joined him, studying it with a slight frown. "Where have I seen this before... Ah, that's right, Alex's bathroom sink after his first dye job."

"Hey," Alex said, but Xinyi was snickering, not the least bit contrite. At the time, he couldn't afford to get his hair professionally done the way he did now, but he'd wanted to do something to fit in a little better at the club scenes he was playing. It had seemed like a good idea, until he was sitting on his bathroom floor surrounded by bottles of product, calling the only friend he had in the city for help.

"We should do it again one of these days," Xinyi said. "For old time's sake. Who knows? Maybe you'll have gotten better now that you've seen the pros do it so many times."

Alex shook his head. "No thanks. At least my hair was still untreated back then. If I messed it up now, I might have to shave it all off."

Luce intended to take his time as he explored this place, his pace a leisurely one. He was a big fan of the whole skeleton thing. It wasn't difficult to tell how many of them were actually real, not if he Saw. It would honestly surprise him if any of these were actually props. He smelled the undeath on them, but this didn't bother Luce in the slightest. He felt something tickle his leg and watched as something that may have once been a rat scurried up his leg, eventually climbing its way up to his shoulder. "Up t'goin' on a ride, lil'guy?"

The gentle smile on Grimmer's face remained, though it was more fixed now, clearly practiced and not genuine, but Tenma's eyes were elsewhere, scanning the crowd furtively. Unnecessarily. Grimmer carefully nudged a cookie to the edge of his plate and bit into it, making a noise as a few crumbles fell. He sighed through his nose as he smiled a bit brighter at the sweet, sugary taste, and stepped a touch closer to Tenma, gently brushing his arm against the other man's shoulder. "Just try one. For me? I think they're quite good. They look homemade, actually... someone must have spent time on them."

Tenma was still for a moment, neither moving away nor leaning into the soft contact, but he did raise his eyes to the small plate, and the half-eaten ghost that lay there, a pumpkin next to it. He hesitated, then... slowly reached to pick up the pumpkin cookie, raising it to his lips and taking a small bite. His stomach made a sound at the taste, admittedly very hungry, and he put the rest of it whole into his mouth, chewing with a light pink on his face. "Alright. Um... I'll take one more," he breathed, making an effort to look sheepish about it as he carefully took a ghost himself and nibbled at the edge of it. Grimmer's smile was renewed, relaxing somewhat as he turned his attention to the large structure that a few people seemed to be going inside of.

"You know, doctor, that building there would be an easy place to escape to, if we needed to. It looks like it has a lot of rooms," he mused, drawing Tenma's attention up towards it as the shorter man munched a ghost cookie in half.

This time, Ichabod was given some sort of round candy in an orange and black striped wrapper. He sniffed it curiously as the pixie moved out of his way, and then stepped forward into the next room.

Here, the floor was coated with plush purple carpet, and the walls almost seemed to move as he walked past the odd painted lines. He caught a glimpse of the skeletal rat again, looking back at him as it darted into a hole in the skirting board, and growled; now he was sure it was the same one!

The hallway made him feel dizzy, and he hardly noticed the outfit the Doctor by the door wore was clearly covered in blood. The words fell out on thier own this time - "Trick or Treat?"

Today was, to put it kindly, not his day.

It had all started this morning, when he'd slept through his alarm and showed up to work two hours late, unkempt and sheepish. To his boss's credit, no one had made a big deal out of it - or rather, no one had had the time to make a big deal out of it. He had simply been handed two packages and told to get back to work.

In his haste to do exactly that, though, he'd neglected to check the packages for important information - namely, whether the addresses were readable. In his defense, he was a bird, and birds are not known for being literate. But the address lines on both of these packages were clear as a puddle of molasses, and while he could just barely make out a name and a city, the rest of it was definitely lost to the ravages of bad weather and sloppy handwriting.

Now, he didn't exactly want to go back to the office. Really, he didn't ever want to go back to the office, but confronting his failures twice in one day seemed way over his pay grade. If he had the names and cities, though, he could probably just ask around until someone recognized the person he was supposed to deliver to. And it just so happened that there would be a party tonight where plenty of people would be all gathered together - perfect.

A gathering of eager visitors of the palace took place a short distance near the Fellox, who with great excitement tried to carefully shove their way between the crowd.

Kumara could see, with great curiosity, a few magical cauldrons whirl their strange concoctions on their own, as if some kind of spirit or ghost was controlling the spoons that brought the mysterious ingredients together to form brightly colored beverages - if they could be called that.

Jace paid little mind to the crowd, instead sitting by the fountain. He rested his body partially by the edge of the stone that encircled the main pool, feeling a bit at ease now that he could appreciate the harmless illusion that was the color and form of the water pouring down. The Tundragoon glanced a bit to ponder upon his reflection on the liquid, before firmly holding onto a bar of chocolate-like candy between his front claws. He peeled off the shiny blue translucent wrapper, and began to chow down the treat. It was quite tasty and crunchy, which made him not wait too long before taking another bite.

“Hey, Jace!” Kumara tried to wave at him with an excited paw, from afar.

“Look, they got magical witch brews for people to try! Come, let us try them out!” They briefly stood on their hind legs to raise their dusky figure, trying to get their companion’s attention.

When Tolly had heard about the zombie meetup at Metha's haunted party, they'd been excited. It wasn't often that the undead got to congregate with others of their own kind, and they'd been looking forward to swapping stories and sewing stitch recommendations.

They hadn't realized it would involve so much babysitting.

The tavil-man next to him - Renfield he'd called himself - was one of those specimens that people gave warnings about. When Renfield saw the splatters on the pathway outside he'd immediately dropped down and started lapping them up, before spitting in disgust upon realizing it wasn't blood. Tolly knew the violent stereotypes that got spread around - but these had always been so abhorrent to Tolly and their experience. Perhaps they had deluded themself in dismissing it all as fearful fairytales.

Luckily Tolly had managed to steer Renfield away from the populated areas of the party. He had rejected the idea of hanging out with the skeletons - "Why would I have interest in them" - so they found themselves wandering the back rooms of the palace. Renfield was now (surprisingly?) civil and discoursing about the make and origins of the various furniture they passed, and Tolly was beginning to find him a rather pleasant conversation partner. Plus they had to admit they didn't mind the lack of gawkers at their sewn-together limbs

Renfield was discussing the curtains when he stopped by the window, staring intently at the windowsill. "Such fine specimens of Drosophila melanogaster," he said softly, as he began sweeping the dead flies into his palm. "What a lovely treat you will make for my spiders!"

Awyn continued to wander through the garden, jotting down various notes on his surroundings. A slight chill followed him as he bee-lined for the intricate fountain in the center of the party. The statue of a woman pouring water from a vase had seemingly been remade out of bones and a jack-o-lantern had replaced the head.

Awyn hiked up his pant legs and vaulted over the edge of the fountain in order to examine the statue further. We waded through the water and put his hand on the bones of the statue, his eyes lit up as he figured out the principle behind the transformation. "Ahh yes, this must be some sort of transmogrification magic, definitely not illusion magic as my hand would have gone to the underlying statue."

As Awyn muttered to himself, jotting down more notes into his already expansive notepad, the pumpkin head of the statue slowly turned and blue smoke started to drip down into the fountain below.

By this point, Tondra's behavior should've come as no surprise, as the pup always had that bad habit of running off without Millie whenever she got herself too excited to pay closer attention to her surroundings. It definitely was one of those things that... probably was the norm, given how young she still was. It made sense that she'd be so easily excitable due to that. But sometimes, one did have to wonder if this was to be expected of all pups like her, or if the trait was unique only to this canine in particular. It was... difficult to know for sure.

Still, all while Millie was preoccupied with her own little mystery, the pup had hurried along even further down the path, and would pick up on something new that seemed... quite mysterious! Yes. Without a second thought, she would veer off from her previous course to head into an area filled with a number of headstones. Feeling quite certain she was on the right track, she put forth an extra bit of speed than was probably necessary. Her eagerness leading to her literally running smack dab into something unexpected. A tiny yelp escaped her at the sudden impact, as whatever she just hit was hard and dense.

"Ugh, don't remind me. Theron and Arcann worked tirelessly on that mechanical creation to serve as the Chaos you were meant to portray alongside my Seraph that Senya worked tirelessly on," Lana said. "Though, honestly, it was probably for the best that we did not end up in the parade. Whatever in the name of the Force was that thing?"

"I think that thing was a Chaos, Lana," Xyshari said. "At least, that's what my research indicated."

"Stars," Lana said. "It seemed similar in scale to a Monolith..."

"Trick or treat!" came a cry from an empty space of air.

"That doesn't count!" screeched Monday from practically across the room. Both were too shy to just go up and ask for candy, but with all the mentality of a child, failed to realize shouting across the room ought to be far more embarrassing. If any singular member of his family were here doing it, he'd be mortified. Yet he obliviously shouted, "Ghost, they have to see you!"

Cassidy flickered in and out of sight for a moment. Glowering in her friend's direction with both embarrassment and annoyance. She was more aware of the attention that was being brought to her, but was only bothered by the fact she was now being stared at for all the wrong reasons. No one expected a kid to just appear out of thin air, after all. Ghosts weren't meant to be the center of attention!

It was chilly tonight, but it was the perfect fall night, if you asked him. Sergio had asked for a bit of time off to go visit this place, and although he had invited Clovis to come along, the sour priest had politely declined - or, well, as politely as it had been for him. That was fine, though. Sergio never said no to a little time of inner peace on his own.

Granted, not many would have opted for this sort of event. But it was different from the religion and the church, so it was appreciated. He quite enjoyed the little decorations throughout the place, crude as they were. The little kids seemed to enjoy them, and he loved to see it.

When he reached the entrance where they were distributing treats and things, he immediately felt a little bit of that child-like excitement. "Oh, my!" Yes, perhaps such sugary treats were a sin, but they were a delicious and delightful little sin. "May I ask for some, please?"

As far as Marceline could tell, there was nothing dangerous about the event that she had been sent to check on. Was there magic involved? It was certainly possible, although she herself wasn't sensitive to that sort of thing, so she couldn't be sure without bringing in someone else. It certainly seemed magical, the way the decorations were moving on their own. But that could easily be some sort of illusion. At least, that's what she would report once she returned to Oberon. 'No danger there,' she would say. 'Just some holiday festivities.'

But there was no reason for her to return to her partner just yet. Now that she had deemed the celebration to have a threat level of zero, she might as well enjoy herself, right? She had nothing else to do for the night, and besides, it looked fun!

Making her way to the front of the line, she grinned widely. "Trick or treat! Oh, and if you don't mind, I'd like to take a look inside the house. I heard there's some real spooky stuff going on!"

...she had to make absolutely sure that there was no threat, right? This definitely wasn't just for her own enjoyment. Nope, not in the slightest.

"Sure, my dear son~" Metha replied melodiously to the elegant orange haired man dressed in a bridal gown. Though, she was smiling, she had a mischievous glint in her eyes. Given that the fairy came and went as she pleased, she never formally asked him to assist with the haunted house, nor did she invite him to intend. She knew, very well, that he would end up hearing about it, one way or another, and act on whatever whim he had. "Why don't you lend a hand to Arthur inside?" she suggested. "Unless you would rather greet our guests here?"

Waiting for a moment, perhaps for consent from the dead rat only Luce seemed to be able to interpret, the back-alley doctor continued his slow, unhurried walk through the crowds. He easily slipped between people and finding paths that allowed him to continue forward unhindered, even with what effort he needed to put it to ensure his new passenger was not jostled too harshly.

It helped that the row of bony spines and vertabrae protruding from the back of his coat tended to encourage people to make room.

He paused at the fountain, leaning down to dip a finger into the green liquid, curious. Was it just dyed, was it enchanted, or perhaps there was something a little more dangerous...?
