Just a quick clarification. When you say "failed" do you mean ones that didn't get the pet or ones that were ignored or never got acknowledged? I started a hunt when I joined the site, and I even posted in it a while ago. It was never acknowedged and never posted in, despite being tagged.
As per the RE2 thread.4: When RE2 posts CAREFULLY read the post to find out if you obtained a wild pet! If you did there should be a PM from RE2 soon after the post with your pet inside.
So, yeah it's always been a thing. Your hunts aren't being ignored though, I used the word forgotten before, because it's definitely not intentional.
A Failed Hunt will deliver a reply such as:
"The sun was shining high in the sky. Birds wheeled about, calling to each other and keeping a keen eye out for any scraps or escapees from the fishing boats on the waters. Nearer to the shore, the waters were rife with people and pets out to enjoy the good weather and clear waters. The sound of children's laughter mingled with the call of beach-side vendors to form a pleasant cacophony. Everything made for an idyllic scene, though if one was looking for excitement,
there was sadly very little to be found."
It's just.. I don't think anything has failed since 2013 whoops.
Back in the older days, there was no guarantee that RE would actually ever visit your thread. This was - as Moofius stated - due to the immense workload of trying to insert yourself into an already rolling roleplay. And then I publicly announced RE2 was on a hiatus back around 2013 while Kreepy coded me a roller.
I think you're talking about the Inessi Hunt, right? I can't find any others you've posted in 'recently', and a lot of your hunts never made it to 25 posts.
I would go after a Lost Tali in a heartbeat if I knew where to start a hunt for one. ...And having 25+ posts for a chance at a pet does seem excessive. I've been planning a hunt but I just dont know where to start anymore; I dont know if we have new "lost pets" everywhere or specific places or just randomly. I would do a hunt for a specific pet, but I dont think I'd particularly enjoy getting a pet I couldnt use/wasnt looking for. In that regard, maybe a list of what pets are where?
RE has been very much about user discovery and exploration. The idea was to release a bunch of pets with two
very set in stone areas, and encourage user discussion on where they found it. And the Lost Tali has been found, so it's area
is known. Of course, maybe what Omni's saying is true and it's becoming an antiquated part of the site, in both concept and execution.
But maybe some new colors and species would help bump that particular area up
What... did you mean by this though? Kreepy tells me there are
39 new Lost pets. If that's.. not enough, I dunno what is. x'D There's also a
special thing that Silv made that's ready to go, I'm just not satisfied about how many Lost Pets have actually been found yet. I also have... 3-4 more concepts lined up just. Yeah. I'd prefer to see more activity before I tell Kreepy I want her to finalise them.
Okay! I do like these ideas haha, though I obviously don't want to favour one or the other because there's so many good and strong opinions about it either way.
What I did like was...
A. Having an 'opt out' tag, opposed to an opt in tag. So you say specifically when you don't want RE posting.
B. Editing the image into someone's post. Slightly less intrusive, I would think? Something like this.
Hunt Success - Fur Patch
There's a key word there that I can run through the search system, there's an item, there's a visual indicator if you're skimming quickly. On the other hand, I could add
Hunt Failed to the bottom of a post too, so you know it's failed.
I do admit, 25 was the number selected due to the breeding room areas, and I am happy to lower it, but there'd definitely have to be a hit to the success rate as a result. Or I can push up the base success rate (ie the success rate at 25 posts) and increase how much your chances rise every 5 posts. I just... don't want to make it too easy either.
Again, yeah. It's a very grindy task, which I mean a couple of our members do enjoy but ever since the others been pushing for more accessibility, the standards for 'how much am I willing to grind for this thing' has definitely lowered. Getting Random Event pets, will always be something people actually have to work towards, however.
Though, actually I do like this suggestion actually, what was the general thought about that?
I also fully support making RE2 and pet drops a LITTLE more accessible. 25 posts is a lot. Maybe if the minimum was decresed, or eradicated, but most posts meant for rarer pets being more likely? Like the lost pets might be found in the same area as a snicky, but if your thread only has 5 posts you're prolly more likely to find a snicky than a lost pet, versus an active thread with 25+ posts? Just to keep the rare pets difficult to find still while still keeping RE2 actively spreading pets?
