Zli liked shopping. More specifically he liked that he was able to watch the city and its inhabitants while he was out and about. The guise of shopping was nearly priceless. Plus if he was able to grab something important on the way then it was all the more valuable. He was in it alone this time. A simple pop off to a shop and then back to base. Useful regardless.

As was his usual, he was late for his birthday, but given it was still October, he could still reap his rewards for surviving a trip around the sun yet again. He approached the counter and grinned up at the person behind it.

"All right, I suppose I fit this place pretty well," it said. "Though you certainly took your time making the decision this time."

"Yeah, yeah," it said, walking up to the counter. "So for this year, I'll be taking a Grab Bag, and also an Elysian Leawolf, Ringing Reindoe, and Seegerwockee."

The shadowy figure at the edge of the street had been standing there for quite some time. Or at least, that was what it appeared to be doing—but upon closer, and continued inspection, it could be seen that it was, in fact, getting closer and closer, as the hour drew late and the cool evening sky began to darken, mottled with rainclouds for a midnight storm.

Even with such a frightening face... it was hard not to feel sorry for it, standing out there in the rain. Strangely, it didn't seem to be getting wet... but even so, its forlorn, blank expression tugged at your heartstrings enough to open the door and let it inside.

You didn't have much time to think on whether or not it was a good idea to do so. Because near instantly, it was shuffling over to the shelves lined in colorful knick knacks and toys, uttering soft, excited sounds. Not quite words, and yet... you could understand them, strangely enough. 'These. These here. I'd like to buy these, right here.'

It rubbed its hands together, spindly little paws, and to your surprise, keystones seemed to blossom from its palms and clatter to the floor. You tried to explain that money isn't the sort of thing that's good here, but the figure was already carefully picking up toys from the shelf with delicate fingers, absorbing them into the black of its shadelike body. 'Thank you. Thank you very very much. Thanks...'

It left without much more fanfare. You reminded yourself to lock the door.

Then she tried to cheer up the 'shop keeper' more "and even if you are running the place like a give away center it is quite kind of you". Then she noticed three others curiously peering at her "as well as...the Elysian Leawolf, Dark Crystal Garangnir and Kingdom Grondlith?".

Timothy was scuttling back to the shop this year with his tail between his legs. He couldn't believe he had almost missed this special errand, but it had been such a crazy year - it felt like he hadn't had a moment to himself in ages.

He slipped in unnoticed between a couple of other customers who ignored him in their eagerness to get their gifts and go home to their families and celebrations. The overwhelming aura of Christmas cheer left Timothy on edge, a warm glow that acted as a constant reminder that he had nearly missed out.

He darted to the counter, and slapped a bag of currency on it together with a list, as he faced the shopkeeper warily.

"I'm sorry I'm a little late, but please can I have these things?" He asked, indicating the list with his paw:

The birthday boutique was one of the happiest places on the planet, but Keo didn't look very happy when he went inside. He pushed the door open and scowled at the shelves lined with gifts. He huffed audibly, causing a puff of frost to float up into the air. What a silly concept. He wasn't sure that he liked it, but he was here, wasn't he?

He went up to the counter, put his paws up on the table, and explained. "Hey, don't tell anyone, but uh, it was my birthday recently. I hear you got some presents for me?" He spoke quietly as if he didn't want anyone to hear him. "I've chosen," he continued. "One Tanzanite Stargoyle, one Elysian Leawolf, one Gentle Sahound, and finally a Champion Battleheart."

The cloaked figures from before entered the strange shop, looking around briefly before approaching the counter. The two of them seemed to exchange words softly before the smaller of the two figures stepped forward and cleared their throat.

"Excuse me," a feminine voice came from within the cloak. "We're here to obtain... gifts for SpringsSong," she said. "I believe we were sent to obtain... a Grab Bag, an Amalgamate Yonyuu, an Empyrean Wockee, and a  Dear Baby Doom Kitty, please," she said. The taller figure nodded in confirmation, murmuring a soft agreement with the cloaked woman.

Fei walked carefully into the boutique-it really didn't seem like the kind of place that suited her at all. However, she did have something to deliver. Carefully, she set down the Wilted Tulip she'd been carrying in her teeth.

"Um...hello?" she said softly. "I...think this was originally from your shop? I heard I could get something if I returned it to you, though if it's too damaged for that, I understand..."

She raised her head, eyes bleary. One blink and light swam into her vision. Another and that light materialised into her computer monitor, still switched on from the night before and a golden glow, peeping from behind a thick blackout blind.

With a grunt, she hauled herself to sit on the side of her bed and rubbed her eyes on her sleeve. God, had she slept last night? Certainly hadn't felt like it, but that feeling and that specific thought was part of her wake-up routine these days. She sighed and wobbly stood up, shuffling through piles of clothes, washed and unwashed, boxes and bags haphazardly strewn about the room. She made a mental note to clean them up eventually. Again, part of her morning routine.

She flicked a stray glance to the monitor again, cluttered, a fast moving discord chat, numbers and charts - a part of whatever new 5 minute long obsession that had caught her interest this time - but it wasn't what she was hoping for. 0 Notifications stared back at her, and with a twist of her lips into a mockery of a smile, she shook her head. She should have known better than to hope; this too was part of her morning routine but for a second she had thought... maybe today might have been different.

Then her gaze dropped to her phone - also notification-less - and to the small flier tucked underneath it. She picked it up gingerly and turned it over. Some birthday voucher, to a little boutique.

With another sigh, she stowed it in her pocket. Well. She may as well get herself something, right? "Happy birthday to me..." she muttered under her breath as she pushed the door open.

At least she already knew exactly what she wanted.

Seriously, a birthday gift? People really put too much weight on getting old - but hey, if it encouraged people to use the Wilson delivery service and thus gave her something to do, she'd take it.

At least some of these trips were more interesting than others; she'd gotten an assignment to deliver a birthday gift to some guy who traveled around half the planet filming documentaries, and that had been a pretty fun one. The sender hadn't bothered to provide a location, so it had basically been a long string of tourist destinations and unusual parts of the world until she'd finally tracked down the guy and delivered his gift. Got paid extra for her trouble, too. Everyone won.

For some reason, Eliza was finding it a little hard to believe that it had actually been her own birthday earlier on in the month. She couldn't even really explain why that was the case. There was just something about it that... she couldn't really put her finger on, and that was what probably made it this difficult for her. She was another year older. And not acknowledging that sooner made her realize that she'd almost forgotten something, until Skylar had come around to snap her out of whatever was keeping her in such a preoccupied state for a while now. "You know today's the last day, right?" The white feline had told her.

Once she finally understood what they'd meant, she ended up here. At the very least ready to go and pick up a few things right now. While the other stuff still on her mind may need a little more time to work through...

"What the hell kinda place is this?" said Xinyi, looking around at the store. "It's like the Birthday Baby threw up in here."

"Isn't it great?" Soda was, of course, in his element. But then, he had been the one to recommend it. And now Xinyi was beginning to regret just going with the flow without interrogating him first on exactly what merits he was making that recommendation in the first place.

"You really think we'll find something he likes here?" said Xinyi, peering dubiously at the selection of candles on display, ostensibly to go on a birthday cake. "I mean, this place looks kind of... He's turning twenty-four, not twelve, you know?"

"Yeah, I know," said Soda. "But he's been looking kinda gloomy lately, so maybe what he needs is a change of pace. Couldn't hurt, right?"

"I guess..." Xinyi wasn't entirely convinced, but it was true that the way that Alex lived was sort of... austere. In a really depressing way, sometimes.

Ah well. If this didn't work, Soda could take the fall, they supposed.
