Although the wood twins ran as fast as they were able, they were hindered by an injured leg apiece. The hollow twins were gaining. When they realized they wouldn't reach the safety of the trees in time, they turned, placed their 'shoulders' together, and awaited the fight that would likely kill them.

"Stop!" came a stern shout. The large greyish-green fellox came leaping from the woods to land between the four chimerantula, directly in the path of the oncoming hollow twins. Badenoch growled, planting his feet and standing tall. How they got loose, he wasn't sure, but he couldn't let them escape. Jericho had gone to a lot of trouble to capture them in the first place, and their venom was most valuable now, in the spring.

Had there been more room between them, the hollow twins might have stopped. But they were moving to fast, and they had no choice but to plow onwards towards the imposing Badenoch. They hissed as they came, lifting clawed forelegs as they neared him.

Injured cowards that they were, the wood twins slipped off into the woods while Badenoch was distracted by the hollow twins. Once out of sight, they limped in the direction of home.

The hollow twins were quick: as Badenoch rolled snapping under their foreclaws, he nearly got skewered. He lept up at their tiny faces, startling them into falling back. Slowly, carefully, he herded them back towards the cabin.

"Jericho!" he howled. "Bring the rope!"

The hollow twins, realizing that he was pushing them towards captivity again, doubled their efforts to pin the fellox to the ground. With a sickening squish, followed by a yelp of pain, the sharp claw of one hollow twin pierced through Badenoch's leg.

"Jericho, hurry," Badenoch muttered, falling backwards to distance himself from the hollows. The wound in his leg ran all the way through, and blood already drenched the fur of his lower leg.

At that very moment, Jericho raced from the cabin, several lengths of rope held in his hand. In no time at all, he had joined the fray, leaping on the back of one hollow as Badenoch snapped at the other. He tied a rope around the creature's neck, tugging backward harshly. This caused the hollow to whirl around and stumble. Keeping it off balance, Jericho pulled mightily until he was able to attach the other end around a sturdy tree. Then the process was repeated with the remaining hollow.

The hollow twins fought their bonds, but the trees were much sturdier than the posts they had conquered, and they were no match. They shrieked their fury, but were unable to do anything about it.

The same was done with the wood twins. Due to their injuries, they hadn't made it far. They were just as unhappy as the hollow twins at being recaptured.

Chimerantula secured, Jericho knelt by Badenoch. He pointed to the bloody wound, glancing up into his friend's face with worried eyes.

"I'm fine," grumped Badenoch, apparently not liking the fact that he had gotten tapped by a stupid, clumsy, chimerantula. "Wouldn't have hit me if I was really fighting, but I was trying not to hurt them too bad. We need them for the harvest."

Jericho simply stared at him. He was apparently not fine, but it was just like Badenoch to minimize his own injuries. His mouth flattened into a thin line, communicating that he was just as stubborn as the fellox. They would go get this looked at.

With a sigh, Badenoch lowered his head in defeat. "Fine. If you must know, I don't think I can make it to town walking, and I won't have you carrying me."

Jericho stood, obviously satisfied with Badenoch's admission. Pointing at Badenoch, then down at the ground, he turned and left. It wouldn't take long to hitch up Boris to the cart. Badenoch could ride in the back on the hay.

Still grumbling to himself, the battlefield fellox lowered himself to the ground and waited for Jericho to return, as ordered. Always making a big deal over the littlest scratches, he was. In mid-thought, a sharp pain stabbed through his leg, making Badenoch wince. Alright, maybe not so little after all.
